Who does what for pumps and drainage in Berkshire, Surrey & London.

Not every pump problem needs a pump specialist, and not every plumber can sort a pump station. This page sets out the types of company working in our area, what each realistically covers, and where we fit — so you can pick the right trade first time.

Comparison: which provider covers what

A capability comparison of provider types rather than a ranking of named firms. “Sometimes” means it depends entirely on the individual company — always ask before booking.

The trades you’ll come across

Pump specialists

Firms whose core trade is pumps: diagnosis, repair, servicing, replacement and installation of sump, sewage, foul, booster and circulation pumps, plus pump stations and controls. Best choice when the pump itself is the problem.

Our pump services

Drainage & tanker contractors

Jetting, CCTV surveys, blockage clearance and licensed tankering of septic tanks, cess pits, interceptors and gullies. Often needed alongside pump work when a chamber is silted or flooded.

Tanker services

General plumbers

Ideal for taps, cylinders, leaks and domestic heating. Many will change a small submersible pump, but sizing, three-phase supplies, control panels and pump stations usually sit outside day-to-day plumbing work.

Basement waterproofing specialists

Membrane systems, drainage channels and damp-proofing, typically installing sump systems as part of a waterproofing design. Strong on structural water ingress, less focused on ongoing pump servicing.

Sump pump repair

National franchises & call centres

Wide coverage and round-the-clock phone lines, with work dispatched to whichever engineer is available. Convenient, but you rarely get the same engineer twice and rates are often set centrally.

Electricians & control specialists

Needed when the fault is supply-side: tripping RCDs, failed contactors, or a rewire feeding a pump chamber. We handle pump-side controls and will tell you plainly when a separate electrician is the right call.
